Path of Exile 2: Dawn of the Hunt — All New Unique Spears

Path of Exile 2: Dawn of the Hunt — Unique Spear Analysis and Build Potential

The Dawn of the Hunt expansion for Path of Exile 2 brings a strong focus on Spear builds, thanks to the powerful Lightning Spear new skills and Amazon Ascendancy. Unique Spears are crucial tools in enabling or enhancing certain playstyles — but not all Spears are created equal.

Dawn of the Hunt introduced the new Weapon type Spear along with 6 new Unique Spears.

In this post, we’ll break down each Unique Spear introduced in Dawn of The Hunt, explain its mods, synergy with current meta builds like Lightning Spear and Amazon Spear, and give insight into whether they are endgame viable, valuable, or mostly niche.

1. Saitha’s Spear (Barbed Spear)

“Born in a star of man’s own make, fused to her hand by her last mistake.”

Key Mods:

  • Adds high flat Physical and Fire Damage

  • Chance to cause Bleeding on Hit

  • Aggravates Bleeding and Ignite on hit

Analysis: This spear is designed around hybrid Bleed and Ignite stacking. The “Aggravate” mechanic rapidly increases bleed and ignite buildup, making this perfect for damage-over-time Spear builds. Would be a great addition for builds that revolve around Bleeding Mechanics

Current meta also has a lot of “Rake” Builds

Endgame Viability:

  • Moderate. Good for mid-tier progression, Could be a great addition to a heavy tuned Rake & Bleed Spear build.

Best Use:

  • Leveling or mid-game Bleed/Ignite hybrid builds.

2. Daevata’s Wind (War Spear)

“You killed their Golden Sekhema. The Maraketh will think of nothingbut vengeance now.” – Dimos, Advisor to General Titucius”

Key Mods:

  • High Attack Speed

  • Bonus Projectile Speed

  • Dual-scaling on Melee and Projectile damage based on previous hits

Analysis: This spear encourages switching between melee hits and projectile attacks to trigger massive bonuses. Fits well with hybrid Spear Builds that alternate between melee and ranged attacks. Fast attack speed and scaling on projectile hit-back synergy make it a decent Amazon Spear option.

From Switching Weapons to Melee and Ranged combination, it is very clear how Path of Exile 2 is different with Path of Exile in term of combat, for players that are getting used to Path of Exile 1 1 Skill Builds, these new mechanics can be very cumbersome and cause a lot of frustration.

Endgame Viability:

  • Low to Moderate. Very solid for early Amazon builds but outclassed by crafted rares or specific late-game uniques.

Best Use:

  • Hybrid Spears builds that frequently swapped between Ranged attacks and Melee Hits

3. Tangletongue (Forked Spear)

Key Mods:

  • Massive boost to Critical Strike Chance

  • Forking Critical Hits

  • Converts Mana Costs to Life

Analysis: Forking Critical Hits is a free invitation to the current meta. With Amazon’s Accuracy Stacking mechanic, this is a no brainer for Lightning Spear builds. Fits perfectly with Lightning Spear builds looking to maximize projectile splits. The Mana-to-Life conversion also offers sustain for high-spam skills.

Endgame Viability:

  • High. This spear has potential for crit-focused Lightning Spear builds looking to clear packs rapidly. Can scale into high-end setups.

Best Use:

  • Crit-scaling Amazon/Lightning Spear builds.

  • Works amazingly in speedfarming environments.

  • Tangletounge is a very affordable spear that offer a lot of utility and synergize with Lighting Spear naturally

4. Chainsting (Hunting Spear)

The Sacred Hunt ends with mercy.

Key Mods:

  • Adds flat Physical Damage

  • Improves Accuracy, Attack Speed, and Projectile Speed

  • Contributes all hit damage to Pin Buildup

Analysis: Geared toward mechanics involving Pinning enemies, but lacking strong scaling otherwise. Good early game spear but quickly falls behind in performance for mid-to-endgame.

Endgame Viability:

  • Low. More suited for leveling or mechanical testing.

Best Use:

  • Early Amazon Spear or any early Pin build exploration.

5. Tyranny’s Grip (Ironhead Spear)

The might of the Eternal Empire was formidable, but rebels of every culture stood together as one.

Key Mods:

  • Huge boost to Physical Damage

  • Reduces Attack Speed

  • Forces Melee Strikes only (no projectile attacks)

Analysis: The restriction against projectile use is a huge drawback, completely ruling it out for Lightning Spear and Amazon Spear playstyles. It’s purely a melee bruiser weapon — incompatible with the meta of Dawn of the Hunt, which heavily favors projectiles and mobility.

Endgame Viability:

  • Very Low. Almost no synergy with the expansion’s primary builds.

Best Use:

  • Early leveling with basic melee setups — quickly replace later.

6. Spire of Ire (Helix Spear)

The spear was specially forged to assassinate Voll, but Maligaro never got a chance to use it…

Key Mods:

  • Huge added Chaos Damage

  • Life Leech based on Chaos Damage

  • Triggers Chaotic Infusion after consuming a charge

Analysis: This is a spear for chaos damage melee builds. It grants Level 16 Chaotic Infusion, giving a unique buff interaction. However, because it focuses purely on Chaos rather than Lightning or Physical scaling, it requires a lot of tuning or a very specific builds to utilize the power of the build

Endgame Viability:

  • Moderate to High — for Chaos builds only.

Best Use:

  • Specialized Chaos spear builds, not mainstream Amazon or Lightning setups.

Conclusion: Which Spears Are Worth Chasing?

Spear Endgame Value Best for Lightning/Amazon Spear? Worth Farming?
Saitha’s Spear Moderate No Somewhat
Daevata’s Wind Moderate Yes Early Game
Tangletongue High Yes Definitely
Chainsting Low Slightly (leveling only) No
Tyranny’s Grip Very Low No No
Spire of Ire Niche No (unless chaos build) Only for Chaos builds

Final Thoughts

For players chasing strong Lightning Spear or Amazon Spear builds in Dawn of the Hunt, Tangletongue stands out as the most exciting Unique. Daevata’s Wind offers a decent starter spear but falls off later.

Other spears like Spire of Ire open niche possibilities, especially if future Ascendancies further empower Chaos Damage Spears.
